Do you happen to have a geiger counter with you?

Our son is studying health physics, and recently began buying a few pieces of old orange-red Fiestaware, which was made with uranium ore. It's safe enough to use, but sets off a geiger counter rather loudly.

My wife and I walked into an antique shop in Petoskey, Michigan, and there some was — we thought. But we weren't sure. Another couple walked in. They, too, were interested, and for the same reason. Well, he had a geiger counter. And the Fiesta items set it off. We split the pieces.

What are the odds of two people walking into the same store at the same time looking for radioactive Fiestaware?

Introduction

Most of us have coincidence stories that make for interesting conversation. In this blog, I'll report some of my own, and encourage others to send me theirs.
